It is predicted to be cold and wet on the days leading into Christmas but clearing up on Christmas day. For those of you hoping for a white Christmas, the mountains are expected to receive snow in the nights before. There could be 1-3 inches of snow as low as 3000-3500 feet and the possibility of a foot of snow above 6000 feet.
June 10, 2016 – Borrego Springs, California gets hit with what looks like 2 – 5.1 and 5.2 earthquakes back to back.
Over a 1000 aftershocks continue to rock Borrego Springs
The USGS originally reported two strong quakes, 5.1 and 5.2, a minute apart but have since corrected the data to indicate this was just one major quake. Rocks are reported blocking the roadway on Montezuma Valley Road, per the CHP site. There are no reports of serious damage as yet, though items felloff store shelves in La Quinta, a Lakeside resident reported a laptop fell to the ground and the screen broke. As far away as Downey, books reportedly fell off shelves.

Snapped this shot last evening at sunset. Sunspot 2396, a behemoth of a sunspot (The size equivalent to multiple Earth’s) is now turning away from Earth, but has the potential to release a major flare soon. Watching it closely. Will post if I see any activity with it (and I’m near internet).
Side note: The clouds (the cirrus at least) give the sun the appearance of being a a gas planet, pretty cool.
Possibility of lightning, thunderstorms and heavy rain
Flash-flood warnings were issued for the Antelope Valley and parts of San Bernardino and Riverside counties Wednesday afternoon, amid an extended period of high temperatures and increased humidity.
The thunderstorms are most likely to develop in mountain, inland valley and desert areas, but coastal areas might see them as well.
